in the darkness I weep
where no can see
wrapping my angel wings
round my wounded heart
they're my cloak and covering
my protection from a world too harsh
tears from heaven rain down on me
the cherubim bare witness to a broken lady
keening the loss of my beloved
not knowing what the future holds
on shaky feet I travel on into new terrain
knowing our creator is with me
still I feel bereft
loneliness confounds me without my loved one by my side
a part of me dying inside
wearing a brave face
hiding the pain
that is tearing at me
losing my footing and getting up again
drinking to numb my raw ache
a temporary fix
the brightness of the day belying the dark I feel within
