The Cage Poem by Mwihaki Kahiga

The Cage

Rating: 5.0

It could have four corners,8 corners, no corners, large or small but not matter how beautiful it is from inside,
Anyone looking at it from outside will realize its a cage.
It could have beautiful, comfortable living areas within it,
It could have flowing waters within it,
It could have all your friends and family within it,
However it remains a cage and if you ever try to leave you are held within its walls.

Employment is a cage,
Where people are trained and moulded to build their employers dreams,
Where people are given a salary, just enough to keep them comfortable,
Where the luxury and comfort of a routine reduces ones brain power into dust,
That can be blown away by any passing winds,
Where the God given powers and will are led through a channeled pipe making you only do what you are required to do.
You can succeed in employment but only if you have your own employees on another place, but mainly i say and this i will insist, let employment be a brigde and not a caged comfort zone that kills your brain power.

There is a phrase we use without thinking of its consequences, you are employed to follow instructions but not to think,
Now tell me why we complain of poverty while the largest percentage of us are building other peoples dreams within the cage,
While we wake up early, drive long distances, work through lunch time, overtime and in the middle of the night whearas if we did the same for ourselves we could be building our own dreams in a a free to breath and think enviroment.

Tell me why we spend hours and hours, reading through theories and stories of success, whereas we have 84,000 seconds per day to invent our own, who says we must stick to the rules of a colonially set system..why do we have to allow ourselves remain standard.... Because we get paid, we take loans, we pay bills, we save little if anything and a good percentage of us retire to nothing but poverty and a pension that trickles like tears from the sun.

I am done with this cage.. And i hope you are too, a step at a time will see you make it, find that opening in the cage that will allow you to breath some fresh air, to dream, to build and break through. You cannot live caged for a lifetime. Wake up and smell the freshness of being your own time keeper.

Focussed and factual. Brave utterances set aside for honest contemplation. An insightful piece of poetry nicely penned with conviction. Thanks for sharing.
