Jess:Night Poem by Laurence Read

Jess:Night

Quietly hushed, comesgentle night,
And thus the dim lit moon and stars alight.
And there she lays, the most beautiful lady fair,
in slumber sweet, caressed by the midnight air.

On this night nor could I slumber too,
But delight instead on this vision true.
This Lady in gentle slumber so sweetly lies,
the most beautiful vision ever upon my eyes.

She lies there in most tranquil sleep,
Upon a feather pillow her cheek to keep.
Her cheeks so delicate on such a lovely face,
her skin so pale kissed by the snow's embrace.

And around the beautiful brow of this lady fair,
flowed strands of the finest silken hair.
Her hair of silk flowed without a care,
Falling like leaves across her shoulder bare.

And her lips as soft as petals of rose,
were blushed against her pale skin of snow.
So natural was her beauty and grace,
And so lovely was her slumbering face,

That in that moment I silently cried,
That heaven did not her love to me deny.
Though before me there she lay,
Let this not be a dream that will not stay.

So reach out I did with quiet hand
And placed it in hers to understand.
And when I did that she held it so very close,
And gently kissed my hand with her lips of rose.

Feeling the warmth of her gentle touch,
My heart understood everlasting love.
Slumber sweetly now my lady fair,
For when you wake I will forever be there.
