Guilt Poem by Jon Holloway

Guilt

Guilt

Stop smiling at me out of your photograph
I know you are crying

Your toothbrush sits in a little holder
It will not be used again

The food you bought for our evening is still in the fridge
I shall eat it alone

Stop laughing at me out of your photograph
I know you are crying

We made love in an understanding silence
Now I make toast

You would never give me the chance to be myself
Now I am me

I hope that you will be happy somewhere
Not with me

She giggled at me out of her picture
I tore it up

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was one of a series of poems I wrote during a period of self enforced solitude, I gave myself about 6 subjects to explore with 7 days off work and no partner at the time; I wish I could find the rest of it but it was some time ago now. This poem won a prize but was entered into the competition without my knowledge (by my my wife, who found it lying around in my first flat) .
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Unwritten Soul 08 April 2018

It was a heartfelt poem and the solitary echoes the feeling that wrapped by the words. A good poem for sure, should remember and rewrite the lost poems again. I think it worth to revisit the memory in past and make it better with new perspective.
