Elsie Poem by Jon Holloway

Elsie

Rating: 5.0

Elsie

Looking at me from a newspaper page
She stumbles, she's learning to walk
Her crying at night put her dad in a rage
Her light went out before she could talk

I can only feel a very deep sadness
Where others feel a powerful urge
To punish and revenge the badness
There is no anger as the tears surge

She will never see a flower grow tall
The ocean waves will never crash
Elsie will never catch the rolling ball
She has been converted into ash

Social services are the newspaper's blame
A torch is shone into the darkest places
Of the games played by the human brain
And tomorrow I will look into your faces
