A Bad Wish Poem by Jon Holloway

A Bad Wish

A Bad Wish

I found in an arcade a Zoltar machine
The jewels on the turban were aquamirine

I felt in my pocket for the required coin
And found one nestling close to my groin

Do you think this Zoltar machine will work
Or does its owner take money and smirk?

You may make a wish for some money
Maybe for a land of milk and honey

But something dark takes over my thought
The ills of the world make me fraught

I wished that I should not wake up tomorrow
Due to my head being filled with sorrow

I slid in the coin and it was rejected
I tried three times and it was ejected
