First Love Poem by Gerry Freeman

First Love

You can't forget your first love,
First love is always true.
The first time that you fall in love
Those feelings are brand new.
You haven't learned to hold them back
As you will later do.
You can't forget your first love,
First love is always true.

I fell in love with a schoolgirl.
Well, I was a schoolboy too.
I'd gaze into those calm blue eyes
And wonder what she knew.
She was pretty, not a beauty,
But I loved her through and through.
You can't forget your first love,
First love is always true.

I was proud, with no experience,
So I blew it like a fool.
My friends all said forget her
When her feelings for me cooled.
Yet half a lifetime later
Here I am the living proof,
You can't forget your first love,
First love is always true.
