The Overall Scheme Of Things Poem by Gerry Freeman

The Overall Scheme Of Things

Whenever I begin to think that something might be going my way
I know that I can well rely on life slapping me in the face.
So don't you wail if you try and fail, it's surely no disgrace,
Because it's only Nature's way of putting you back in your place.
Chorus:
After all you're just a small detail in the overall scheme of things,
Just a dot upon the I or an ink blot on the page
And every little thing you try will always come to no avail.
After all you're just a very small detail.

Don't tell yourself that you're unique because you're just irrelevant.
They don't need you to contribute, you're truly insignificant.
You don't stand out among the crowd so why should life be kind
When no one cares just how you feel or gives a damn what's on your mind?
Chorus:

You'll never have too far to fall with both feet on the ground.
Clinging to those bottom rungs, they'll never knock you down.
Go with the flow, keep aiming low, that's my philosophy,
Then you can smile once in a while with every little victory.
Chorus:
