The Reality Tree Poem by Jon Holloway

The Reality Tree

The Reality Tree

Yesterday the tree, a black skeleton on a grey sky
Everything composed of cut-outs, I don't know why
People I knew ceased to matter at all
Difference between right and wrong so small
I needed sleep but it would not come to me any more

Today the tree in 3D and full colour on a blue sky
Everything so detailed watching the gold leaves fly
People I know, they can make me cry
I know now what is wrong and right
For a good enough cause I will fight

All of this wonderful change came about
Through a nice long dream without doubt

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I spent many sleepless nights, working all day, lying down at night waiting for the day; repeat, repeat. Eventually I went to the doctor, the first thing he gave me only worked for two days but it made me realise how important sleep was to feeling fully alert and able to absorb my surroundings.
