Shelter Poem by Jon Holloway

Shelter

When a hot day grows dark and thick
Rain spots start dotting the dry ground

A small girl will run screaming
In the glasshouse she will hide

Overhead storm clouds will rupture
White hot roots will search the sky

The storm will extract her fear and wonder
Sheltered by a tent of glass

Smelling the warm earth within
For a while she will feel safe
