In A Maze Poem by Melati Hussein

In A Maze

Every turn was one step further into the maze

One step closer to getting lost

One breath further away from you

Sometimes birds sang sweet songs

And the clock struck

Pockets were empty of bread and biscuits

And I couldn't remember any words

Then the curtain fell

Eyelids pinned

Fingertips candle burnt

And all was dark

Someone, maybe you,
was tapping a keyboard

Someone was on the other side.

But I was not
