I Can' Smile Poem by Tesfaldet Ghebrehiwet

I Can' Smile

Leave alone to guffaw and giggle
I cant snicker or chuckle
It even has been long since i lost my smile
I just weep, sob, wail and then snivel
Piles of misery have made me somber, pale.

I have Nothing that tickles me
What do i see that pleases me
What do i hear that delights me
If Death is the news, the story
If things make no merry
If It is all tragedy
Nothig hilarious, nothing comedy
Nothing is pleasant, nothing is funny

Don't you hear what i listen Here and there
A drowned colleage, A friend shoot dead
A wife widowed, A neighbor sadened
A citizen camped and detained
Mom and infant killed with Umblical cord not tied
These all don't urge a smile
But boil my blood and bile
To do something to end the death tale
Hence, i can't smile.

May be i will smile, guffaw or giggle
If i stop our flow to the devoiring sea
Set a museum for the scenes of our desparate journey
When i break the Chains of the tyranny
May be i will smile when i fulfill my citizens plea
May be when i erect statue of our liberty
I may smile, If i Pave in my country 'Lampedusa' avenue
May be if i register Sahara's cry and hue
May be When i get rid of Bedewin's and  Sinai's deja vu
May be then When i Subdue the undue.

Leave alone to guffaw and giggle
I cant snicker or chuckle
It even has been long since i lost my smile
I just weep, sob, wail and then snivel
Piles of misery have made me somber, pale.

I have Nothing that tickles me
What do i see that pleases me
