Hear Me Poem by Nkosilathi Zinyane

Hear Me

Rating: 5.0

A closet I have not
But the bare ground on which I kneel
Which is not even mine
I pour out the shrapnels of my moribund heart
Give heed unto all I shall say
For none else will

I'm not here to beg for wealth
I have seen places of plenty wealth where there is no laughter
I'm not ready to have sleepiness nights
Gazing at the contents of my safe
Lest one incensed by greed
Should covert it
No no no

Neither do I need excessive lifestyles
That I live without a knowledge of my self
I do not need much from your kingdom of gold
But just a pinch will get me through
Look at my apparel
Lice infested
I dug a grave over there for my dignity
When my children realised that the different colors on my clothes
Were no longer patches
But the bare of my skin.

My need is not for the body
I am no longer a human whole
If I can not get your gold let me have your strength
To endure the depressing humiliation
That I face those that look unto me
Those you have given me.
