Covid Deaths In Goa - Help My Goa To Battle Covid 19. Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Covid Deaths In Goa - Help My Goa To Battle Covid 19.

As 26 people lost their lives together
in their hospital beds at the Goa Medical College,
that night, the moon had a different reality to showcase;
as patients suffering from COVID-19 infections
connected to their ventilators
kept gasping for breath,
as patients suffering from COVID-19
kept suffocating until they died.
Yes,26 covid patients who were
struggling to survive in the hospital beds just died
as suddenly they were cut off from their oxygen supply.
So vivid was that pathetic sight
that as one by one kept collapsing and closing eyes
when the ventilators stopped working
and as the patients just kept perishing together,
life seemed so merciless at that afflicted moment.
Where was opportunity for angels to help them survive?
What could doctors themselves do to help their
patients when oxygen was out of supply?
And as those helpless patients kept struggling to respire,
they were gone, leaving this world
and their families in tears of remorse
as medicines they could have ran and bought
for their dying relative,
food they could have rushed and fetched
for their dying relative,
even water they could ran and brought
for their dying relative
but from where could they run and bring oxygen
that could be put inside a ventilator to help him
or her breathe and survive?
That was the night when 26 people expired
due to lack of oxygen
that was the night when so many in bitterness of tears cried
to recollect of such a helpless end to life
that they will hold its memory which will never be erased
from their minds even with time.
So, help my Goa I plead to the World Organizations
so that such sordid incidents never get repeated
where patients have to surrender to death for lack of oxygen;
and as our Goa is the epicenter of covid deaths,
the highest deaths occur in our city hospitals everyday
since we have no secure and proper oxygen supply
as so many patients keep increasing in number day by day.
I appeal to organizations worldwide to help my Goa
as so many carriers and containers have arrived
in our country India
but we have not yet received any medical aid
or even oxygen concentrators in Goa
though we have our own airport and ports;
but not one plane or ship with supplies
of medical equipment has reached to our Goa so far;
our Goa has been managing the covid pandemic on its own
but we need oxygen cylinders, we need vaccines,
we need medicines and even food supplies.
Can the United Nations or the World Health organization
and other countries please come to our rescue
and help us overcome deficiencies of oxygen
and provide us with medical supplies that we need
as the international medical aid received by our country
from other countries we do not know
when it will reach our Goa
but we know for certain that our people are dying
for lack of oxygen and medical supplies.
I therefore implore UN and WHO to please assign
proper supply and distribution of any aid
sent to our country
so that my Goa gets oxygen, vaccines and medical aid in time
as all world leaders sit there and make speeches
which are less important to us in this hour of need
as our biggest concern now is to save our people from dying in multitudes due to lack of medical necessities.
It is most painful panaroma to see dead bodies
being rushed to cemeteries or put on pyres every hour
as it is so heartbreaking to see people dying
for having no oxygen supply
which is such a nightmare which my tearful eyes
had never for once imagined.
