21 Candles - (Dedicated To The Egyptians Slained In Lybia) Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

21 Candles - (Dedicated To The Egyptians Slained In Lybia)

Rating: 5.0

Light up twenty one candles for us,
let every candle bear our name,
in every light of that candle
will glow our silenced dreams-
the dreams we left behind,
the hopes we had built for others
which will lie like a crater on their hearts
of those whom we were a part.
As we stood there waiting for mercy
as the last moments of life ebbed,
we remembered, we cried and choked
like fingers clinging onto rosary beads
fretfully we hoped pity would wave its hands
and grant us grace to live then die;
but the moments of closure surmounted
as, one by one, of us, fell off
and rolled onto to the ground.
Light up your candles
in memory of us,
each candle will hold our name
in that glow of the candlelight
you will see our face
in that reflection,
you will know that we died for our faith
and not for crime.

The root verb is ‘slay' and its past participle is ‘SLAIN'. Please correct it as ‘slain'. Thank you.
