Covid 19 - Vaccines Versus Virus- O God, Heal The World. Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

No common enemy, no common economy
no common history, no common geography;
yet a common virus, a common anxiety
a common ambulance, a common hospital;

a common remedy, a common vaccine
a common cure or a common tragedy;
no one certain of life, no one certain of good health
no one certain of freedom, no one certain of friendships.

As streets count the footsteps, night counts the corpses,
as dawn awakes the survivors, hope encourages humanity,
schools empty of students, airports empty of travelers
faces covered with nose masks, world amiss of liberties;

and though world fears no wars, world always upholds peace
and though world fears no calamities, world maintains safety;
yet world now challenged by a virus called the corona virus,
world helpless and suffering due to an invisible infection.

The corona virus - a common danger, a common risk
a common concern; a common sense of prevention;
a common sense of protection, a common sense of duty
a common prayer and a common fight against it;

as hospitals keep getting over-full, no beds to sleep on,
humanity so aghast living in sordid apprehensions;
humanity relieved momentarily as vaccine begins its journey
but suddenly a new strain surfaces igniting a new panic.

Suddenly lockdown becomes so imposing
suddenly ambulances keep moving sick to hospitals
suddenly hearse vans keep rushing to cemeteries
while the world keeps accepting vaccines as the best remedy;

what else can the sad world do to stop the callous virus?
when will compassion extinguish the inflictions it is causing?
what else can humanity do but accept its adversities?
why will we not want to live some more time on this planet?

what assurance can the world give us after the vaccine
what can a vaccine promise when a new strain is the fear?
who else will struggle to breathe or die except you and me?
who else but God alone can save us and our generations.
