Corruption Bane Of Development Poem by Olusanya Anjorin

Corruption Bane Of Development

Accustomed to corruption
Like tortoise in its shell
Yet, corrosive effect offers limited options
Inhibiting us from soundness and bloom.

A Goliath in corruption
And tribalism
Yes, Giant in deception
And Nepotism

Endowed with unlimited resources
Yet, we collectively refuse to prepare the right sauce
Rather play with words

To say corruption eat us up
Is to say the least.
We do no more than hip, sup and eat at the pub
Rather than conquering the beast

Established endless laws
Few cases prosecuted
Instead of the punch to break the jaw
Select cases executed.

Our economic, social and moral status
In the comity of nations plummeted in the abyss
And all seek for a herb called lotus
To palliate our dismal failure.

We watched incredulously at some plea bargain
Marveled at the level of injustice.
Done! This is incredible, we complained
Hope this is not poetic justice!

Who knows how much money have been siphoned
But could that tube be channeled back into the nation?
And get our system fine-tuned?
As we are not short of rations
