A Sonnet On Baby's Breath Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

A Sonnet On Baby's Breath

A Sonnet on my Baby's Breath
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I ordered the seeds for the flowers, Baby's Breath,
And revelled in the fact that these small white flowers
Would bring back the joy I felt at feeling life, my baby's life grow within me 20 years ago
The anticipation I had felt at its conception was every bit as good
When I held my newborn baby in my arms
The innocent smile held so much charm for me,
A die hard feminist engineer who welcomed the state of motherhood
And its triumphs, travails, thrills, tests and truths
The surge of love I felt when he suckled at my breasts
Made me realize that if its all in the right vision
Its also in the left instinct
He was a playful baby who delighted in my touch
His life lit up my life in so many ways
And he is the tungsten in the electric bulb of my life as a mother even to this day.
