A Ballad on Beverley McLachlin, the ex-Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
According to Wikipedia, a ballad consists of 13 lines and is a narrative which can be sung. It has an ABABBCBC form consisting of rhymed verses or couplets, each of 14 syllables. I managed to get all of it but could not keep up the required number of syllables. But in my defence, the poet whose work has been used as an example in Wikipedia had only 10 syllables.
I would also like to say that on World Freedom of Press Day, which is today, I referred to a feature in The Globe and Mail published on Jan 13th,2018 by Fred Lum.
I would also like to say that it is in Christina Rosetti style, argumentative and not folksy or frivolous.

Argumentatively, her court changed Canada (14 syllables)
Beautifully, she has helped shape fundamental rights (17 syllables)
Actually, her interpretation of the Charter of Rights and Freedom
Basically has helped redefine modern Canada
Be it said that from assisted dying to the
Called out verdict of positively treated accused criminals
Beverley McLachlin has used her Alberta roots in
Court to suit the Canadian"ness" of the Supreme Court
She pushed the scrutiny of laws to the hilt
In a 5-4 ruling of Sauve vs. Canada, she declared it unconstitutional
For the Jean Chretien federal govt. to take away the right to vote for federal prisoners
For believing in her ideals and the law, she was publicly attacked by ex-PM Stephen Harper
But she came out of it a winner.
