Time Poem by Lily Ives

Time

Rating: 5.0

What is the concept of time?
The clock dial spins on repeat in a circular motion every 24 stops, and
I can hear it tick and tock
In the morning the sun rises, and at night it falls
In the mirror, I notice my face blooms new shadows
In the body, I welcome an ache with another dawn
The music dulls over time with each new song
My loved ones grow, age and disappear below the tombstone
In the city, the ground sprouts and swallows another home
The neighbours in my hood come and go
The sturdy steel fences in my yard rust and erode
My dreams spring up and disappear all on their own
Sometimes I stop to smell a rose
but the flashing traffic lights remind me that life moves on
When I return to the garden and visit the same spot,
the rose I admired has withered and fallen to the floor
Wherever I look, the world morphs, and yet,
I still can't shake the feeling that I am eternal.
