What Would You Do?

What would you do if you knew that all the elements bring me to you?

I gaze at a flame, dancing across a burning log,
and watch it slowly disintegrate into sleepy embers as I think of you.

So, this is how it is.

I see you in the tangerine and golden hues escaping from the torrid wooden limbs,
and I feel you in the splintered dry birch prickling my skin.
I see you in the crimson ash,
and I feel you in the heat radiating in my flushed cheeks.

I see you in the shimmer of a low tide,
and I feel you in the coarse grain beneath my feet.
I see you in the anchor chain hanging by the boat,
and I feel you in the gentle wind gliding across my lips.

The space between us may be counted in miles,
but it is not empty;
It is a tightly knitted web weaved with all the streets that unite us.
If you knew how I feel, would you take the road less travelled to claim me?

So, this is how it is.

When you fall, I want to be the ground that catches you.
When you walk, I want to be the space that releases you.
When you sleep, I want to be the wall that protects you.
When you stand beneath the showerhead,
washing the stress away,
I want to be the water that soothes you.
When you quench your thirst,
I want to meld with the drink to replenish you.

Our souls may be split in two,
and we may be apart,
but if you knew how I feel,
would you stand by me and choose my heart?
