In And Out Of Heartbreak Poem by Lily Ives

In And Out Of Heartbreak

Rating: 5.0

A graceful beast in thick matted light
devouring mane entered my life
in the still of the night -
And against the moon's silver light,
his downturned deep-set magnetic eyes
glistened like dark green goldstones,
as his piercing gaze met mine and broke
the bronze chains I secured around my heart.

Yang to my yin,
darkness to my light,
he pulled the wild beast
from the caged walls of my chest,
and silenced the distorted melody
in my mind.

Holding me in his tight embrace,
he strummed the contours of my back
with his fingertips, as we danced
to a forgotten tune -
Chest to chest, hip to hip in slow,
repetitive pulsating rhythm,
exchanging unspoken passions for connection.
Spinning, clutching and not wanting to let go,
until the final beat of the song untangled our bodies,
and snapped the invisible cord holding our souls.

The glimmer in his eyes turned to dusk,
as the space between us grew vast -
And he left behind the ardent expression ignited within us,
to burn my heart to dust, from which I built
diamonds in my chest in place of love.
