The Hunchback's Dream Poem by jewel mazhar

Mirage of an island flickers in a far-off sea.


Every now and then
unreal symplocos racemosa glances over.


Yet hope to return to the sea
is never a dream come true.


Collyrium-painted eyes of a hunchback
Keep on gazing.

Dream-swaddled trees they only see.
Trees that stand by amazing roadsides.


And there are nymphs who come flying in flocks
holding cups of Silken sherbet.


On towers and columns they land
They land on the humps of bulls.


One of the nymphs has a baby-fish in her womb.
She now spreads her webs of silk
from forty light-years away.


While on the balcony
the Orion plays with his dreams.


With the fear of hartal the day starts.
It is 09.01 a.m - - strikes the clock, when
out of the womb, a son of man
makes his first ever appearance in a hospital.


- -With ample flashes the ocean makes.


Trees, swaddled in white silk,
burst out laughing.

They cause the mirrors shiver.







।। কুজ্বপিঠ স্বাপ্নিকের হাসি ।।


সমুদ্রে দ্বীপের ভ্রম! অবাস্তব লোধ্ররেণু
প'লে প'লে উঁকি দিয়ে যায়;
সমুদ্রে হয় না ফেরা তবু।

কুজ্বপিঠ স্বাপ্নিকের সুর্মাটানা চোখ শুধু দ্যাখে:
অবাক পথের পাশে শাদা, রেশমি
কাপড়ে জড়ানো গাছপালা

সারি সারি স্তম্ভে-শৈলে, ষাঁড়ের কুকুদে
রুপোলি শরবতসহ ঝাঁকে ঝাঁকে পরি এসে নামে।

এদেরই একজন যার গর্ভে মাছ,
চল্লিশ আলোকবর্ষ দূরে বসে রেশম ছড়ায়।

বারান্দায় কালপুরুষ সারারাত স্বপ্ন নিয়ে খেলে।

দিন শুরু হরতালের ত্রাসে।

নয়টা এক মিনিটে
হাসপাতালে পুত্র আনে সমুদ্রঝলক।

আয়না কাঁপিয়ে হাসে
শাদা, রেশমি কাপড়ে জড়ানো গাছপালা!
