The Cat And The Hat Poem by Renee Russon

The Cat And The Hat

Don't want to be your long distance lover
Give me a new direction
When the setting sun burns low in the sky
I feel this strange connection
You're North I'm South
We gaze at different seas
Where mackerel clouds are blown like kisses
Sweet temptations in the breeze
A click a dot or maybe not
Some Je ne sais quoi
Keeps me simply amused for a while
There is no accounting for taste
I break into a smile
I shall not think of you.
No! .....Never!
So to keep me from the pain
I shall think of something funny
And start singing in the rain
I won't consider age and beauty
Freedom is my way
Release me from a heart's desire
Give me bouquets of knotted barbed wire
To make me walk away
Oh..but when I think of you wearing your crazy hat
Posing around
With your purring cat
I lose my balance
Falling from grace
Hello Long distance lover........
I rest my case
