Strange Elements, Dying Flame Poem by Michael Brosky

Strange Elements, Dying Flame

Raindrops coming down on the green births
And a thousand rushing rivers passing by
You could hear the peace curtain falling
Over the dry and thirsty disbelievers

Mists on the crowded trees in wet earths
And a thousand needy children sleep and sigh
It felt like the Jonah womb calling
To be filled full, as we all become breeders

Stars unseen and lost in the deep black
And all their lighthouse songs unsung forever
As wise men close their books, do not seek
It is just total loss of the total goal

Strange elements draw a sharp breath back
Wakefulness is draining from the surrender
A dying flame, the cause of grey sleep
No dreams, no saviors, no wish control

In these strange elements, by the light of a dying flame
The unnatural supplants the raw order of it all
See the sexy shadow silhouette on the bedroom wall
Mix, touch what heat is left, give me my alchemical name
