Praise Singers. Poem by Monkals Kalu

Praise Singers.

I never planned,
Neither was I ready
For an improvised event
Where eulogizers admix.

There I was,
With a mix of joy
And infelicity,
As I watched them
'Praise sing' monies off
The pockets of dazzled guests.

These folks?
They're so skilled!
Skilled in singing,
Skilled with words,
So skilled the Ancestors
Hardly hold back their smile.

Listen! I say, listen!
What secret
Haven't you heard?
Listen to their words
When they sing,
They're always profound!

They'll praise your ego
Till it giggles in their furnace,
They'll tickle your pride
Till your puerile fantasy shows;

Flap not your ears
When they sing.
Oh yes! They also defame!
Yes, the praises they sing,
In them lies deep gossips!
You really can't be careful enough,
Where there are Praise Singers.
