Peace, Peace We Say… Poem by Adrian Wait

Peace, Peace We Say…

Peace, Peace We Say…
Odyssey of the heart
Yes, Peace, Peace we say
Knowing not where to start
Commencing with the, if only
If only, others would cease to fight
…Would care for the lonely…
Feed, the hungry, ease, their plight

Peace, peace, please…we say…
…With little depth of thought
Searching for peace, outside, apart
Through others and never, nought
Within, the chambers of the heart
Will we ever discover peace, sacred?
Peace, Only in the sacrifice of self
House, the homeless, clothe the naked,

Peace, Peace they say…
Lusting for greed, for the few
Postponing justice for another day
Corrupt, the crowd, give them their due
No Justice, No peace our fathers knew
No sacrifice of conscious to make it through
Who is my neighbour, where is my heart?
Feigned concern tears peace and justice apart.

Peace, peace we say…
