On the incredible heap
Of toxic strewn garbage
Anxious scrawny tykes canvassed
For some discarded morsels
To add to the empty cauldron
At the squalid shack back home
While the gulls, crows and vultures
Circled above the contaminated buffet
Watching how systemic misery
On the grimy faces of children
Can somehow relentlessly smile
Beyond belief.
