Jack Poem by heather sweeting

Jack

Your passing was done in a moment,
Separating all that has meaning in life
From the chaos of being alone.
The threads of love between us stretched
to breaking point, but held as
I saw you walk through death's door.
I held your hand and what is more,
would have gone with you, but fate forebore.

I shared your pain and wished it quickly over,
and in that wish I knew your time had come.
A life so full of fun and laughter
was ending, the marathon of life was run.
And those you loved will talk of you together,
recalling favourite moments, friendships won.
And as for me, when I can weep no longer,
I'll carry on and build on what you've done.

I will feel you very near forever,
The empty armchair holds your presence yet.
Your touch upon my shoulder to console me
and your sweet embrace, I never will forget.
No more can mortal pain torment you,
yours now the rest we all will know one day.
I'll celebrate the life we had together,
and I will smile for both of us today.
