In The Dark Poem by Leonard Champlin

In The Dark

He waits for her
in darkness
to see her face
lighten up the room.

But the light is dim
a flicker
not quite enough
to overshadow gloom.

Her glowing eyes
they shimmer
in the room
not filled with light.

The fire within
her heart does burn
for only him
on this darkened night.

They came here
finding answers
and each other
in the restless dark.

They pass each other
like two vessels
and never once
cast an emberred spark.

But in this world
so vastly large
of precious love
both return to be.

To light the room
where spirits blessed
for all the world
to see.
