Leonard Champlin Poems

She says that she can't stand me when I tell he that I love her
she hates it when I say it that there is no one above her.

She says that she can't stand me whenever I choose to call her
...

She rested in his arms and went to sleep
her halo crooked as she fell asleep
the Angels sang and danced upon her chest
her long hard day would give her comfort, rest.
...

There is always this thing in the back of my head
that says I'd live better if I were just dead.
With nothing to live for and nothing to show
or shallow unhappiness that I've grown to know.
...

What would you say
on that beautiful day
if love came
to take over your heart.
...

5.

The oceans roar approval at the bright red fireball sunset
cast out across the waters in August at high tide.

Fishermans boats on the horizon, silhouettes on the skyline
...

He waits for her
in darkness
to see her face
lighten up the room.
...

7.

Fear not
the blood
where broken arrows go.
...

Suppose you had a life
that had no answers
yet
you needed them
...

He tried to steal her heart and set her free
but broke his heart instead on bended knee.

He'd wonder what he did that was so wrong
...

For years the past has haunted me
where did she go?
did she really look for me
I do not know.

She Says She Can'T Stand Me

She says that she can't stand me when I tell he that I love her
she hates it when I say it that there is no one above her.

She says that she can't stand me whenever I choose to call her
but we stay upon the telephone for hour after hour.

She says that she can't stand me when I ask her out to dinner
but she'll gladly take my offer 'cause she'll only dine with winners.

She says that she can't stand me, but 'let's go out for a beer'
while we sit at our favorite club for hours of laughter and cheer.

She says that she can't stand me for long walks in the park
hours of walking nature trails, and kisses after dark.

She says that she can't stand me, but to grow old all alone?
For her it's not an option, for her it's not yet known.

She says that she can't stand me, but when I was gone
she'd search until she found me from evening till the dawn.

She says that she can't stand me, tell me, what do you think?
Does it sound like a person with just a nod and a wink?

I think not my friends, sounds like true love to me
so perhaps she really CAN'T stand me, because she truly loves me.

There really is no secret here of how he feels for she
nor of the thoughts within her heart of how she feels for he.

But then again, maybe she really CAN'T stand me!

Really?
