Going To The Beach Poem by John F. English

Going To The Beach

Rating: 5.0

I had some time to myself
so I went to the beach
seemed like a good idea at first
after all the sun was shining
i arrived
and, yes
it did look nice
but in a short while I was bored
it's not the same as being a kid
when I would build sandcastles all day
or fish for crabs in the rocks
those were good days
simple days
now I'm older and life
isn't so simple anymore
they want you to work now
contribute to society or whatever
while all I want to do is play
these days i build castles in the sky
people say I'm a fool for it
frankly I couldn't care less
what they say
I went to the bar
ordered a scotch on the rocks
to hell with the beach
it only brings back memories
the sort that make me sad

Piece of elegance insightfully brought forth with conviction. Indeed, times are different and nostalgic feelings of childhood could make one mad, considering that one is unable to enjoy such innocence and carefree life anymore in adulthood. Thanks for sharing John.

I say to pot with those on the beach, build sandcastles with moats and watch them fill up with the next wave. I guess it's easy when you have kids and you can pretend it's their idea :) make it a Double scotch.
