Fruit Poem by Adalia Summers

Fruit

You must eat the fruit before it spoils
Was that your excuse?
You didn't want me when I was older
You have to pick me off the vine early
I was a rose without thorns
Not fully grown and defenseless
Was my innocence sexy?
Was my hesitation thrilling?
Was my ignorance your bliss?
You seemed to have a real good time back then but you can't even face it now
Funny how now you're the coward so afraid to talk about it
Guess we've switched roles now haven't we.
I am the strawberry, the blueberry, the raspberry enticing to the last bite.
I am a lovely sunripe harvest
A mouth dropping fruit salad
You ate my salad before I even had the chance to know what it was made off.
You are a cannibal, a monster and a sad pathetic being.
I hope the next time the fruit is rotten.
I hope the next time it's too big for you to swallow.
I hope the next time you choke.
I hope the next time you learn and pick a fruit that's ripe.
