Roses

You decided to pick me off the vine before I was full grown
I guess that's what you liked though wasn't it
The fact that not all my pedals were bright
And all my thorns weren't sharp.
I had a great defense mechanism but I was too young to use it.
But isn't that whats great about a rose?
Her beauty always protected, always innocent.
But that's the thing you took that beauty away.
Snatched me off the vine and then had to the guts to say
'Dear where you have been all my life'
I wasn't even born yet
So the next time you tell your new girl her bedtime story
Make sure you mention the thorns in your flowerbed
That you'll never get away from.
