Endurance Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Endurance

Rating: 4.5

Errors constantly exploit inhibitions
trust deceives those who over believe it,
endurance alone helps to overcome
the burdens of envy and prejudice;
when compliance withers expectations
feelings of hatred ignite devastation;
when prudence stands its ground
and principles refuse to surrender
selfish dreams of another tremble
like broken glass pieces they silently grunt.
In the hope of defiance of correctness
might cannot taint nobility and prestige,
right cannot divide a pond into potholes,
as only that what is destined happens swiftly
what is not willed can only be altered
if there emits mutual respect and liberty of fairness.
In the periphery of thoughts
a million actions subvert honesty,
knowing that some things cannot be attained
cannot be bargained, cannot be granted
as consciousness abides in mind that is strong;
errors of deliberations so unforgivable,
somewhere, somehow at sometime
retribution befalls the guilty souls
who venture out in unwanted vengeance
and though vanity may never offer opportunity
the innocent with his velocity of tolerance bears
the pain, the injustice, the deprivation over the years….
in the tournament of endurance, he excels;
while the ones who cause dismay, despair
open the gates of hell for themselves
for, in their wasteful efforts
of depriving another of his dignity
they lose their own peace
to wrath and wreckage.
