Dashed Promise Poem by Sara Militello

Dashed Promise

Rating: 3.0

Dashed Promise

Somewhere in time a noble theme
steeped in grandeur was dreamed
and Mankind wove it into a great scheme
neatly framed and wrapped in glory

Yet from the highest peak
into the trenched deep
has Man plunged from ideals
become too steep.

With nary a pause ‘twixt grandeur and gloss
or even a hint of giving a toss
Mankind's fall remains an abiding mystery
lest one takes heed of supererogate greed.
