Coronavirus - On This Earth We Will Live Only Once Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Coronavirus - On This Earth We Will Live Only Once

O' God, we don't ask Thee for wallets of money,
we don't ask Thee for diamonds and jewelry,
we don't ask Thee for mansions with fountains,
we don't ask Thee for any grandeur or mountains.

We ask Thee only for Thy blessings
we ask Thee only for Thy kindness
we ask Thee only for Thy benevolence
we ask Thee only for our healthy existence.

And as You sit there as a Judge
and pass Thy orders on nature and mankind,
seasons keep rolling and winters get colder
summers keep rushing and sunshine gets brighter,
while we keep asking Thee for blessings we deserve.

And even though a judge who sits in a courtroom
maybe unable to imagine the plight of a man
as he can never can really judge clearly
what a justice-seeker comes there to find
sometimes a judge chooses to help and reverts his mind.

But God, Thou can never be misled,
Thou can never choose to be incorrect;
Thou cannot permit a pandemic to travel world wide
and infect so many people so callously everywhere it goes.
So God, I implore Thy intervention and Thy compassion.

As the corona virus clutches not only the old
but also the young and the vibrant;
the virus even grabs the helpless and the weak;
and it chooses to damage the health or cause deaths.

O' God, where is thy mercy, where is thy pity,
how can You ignore the plight of humanity?
When You are Our Father who has made our Universe
how can You see Your people suffering for so long
how can You turn a blind eye to our anxiety?

Have Mercy O' God, cure our world from this virus
before deaths extinguishes the human race
and on this earth can remain back a catastrophe
which will make this planet feel an emptiness
as Thou has showered us with Thy splendor and magnificence
so unfathomable and so valuable as one life
is all we get to live while on this earth we exist.
