Coronavirus And The Global Outcry Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Coronavirus And The Global Outcry

People all over the world so bewildered
by the unending presence of a virus,
a virus called the Corona,
so unknown to man over centuries,
so incomprehensible to a healing process,
so intimidating to doctors and patients,
to scientists and researchers,
as no cure emerges to demolish the virus:
a virus that keeps demolishing the lives
of people all over the globe,
day after day, night after night
without any respite or mercy.

Man's existence in peril
as one by one keeps going
to rest beneath the ground without justice;
and whether people are friends or foes,
whether neigbhours or strangers,
no one knows how to escape the virus
and no one knows who will be the next to perish.

And just as a sinking ship keeps going down
taking a few hundred people
into the sea below when
there is no hope for rescue;
the Coronavirus is much more treacherous
as no one can tell or count
how many lives it has withered away
and to how many it has caused
suffocation and pain
with its resolute cruel action.

And those men who had ventured
to other countries for better prospects,
for better income and prosperity,
and though they attained success and glory
yet they cried relentlessly for help
when the virus appeared before them
and threatened to eliminate them
from the surface of this earth
and from this gigantic universe.

Yes, an invisible virus called the corona
made people to rush back home
to their own country of birth
from any part of the continent or ocean
that they lived in or settled
whether it was for work
or for a holiday as a reason;
and as families waited for reunions
and relief from anxieties,
man failed to realize
that it was not his country nor his nation
that had asked him to go far away
from his native to earn his livelihood
that when calamities strike
he starts panicking, packing his bags,
desiring to come home
into the arms of his family and safety.

O' Coronavirus- thus an eye-opener
as it brings great minds and small
to realizations
that man must plan his future
calculating mishaps and calamities,
tragedies and futility,
as aspirations like an inflated balloon
always keeps flying determination higher
but suddenly it bursts in unknown zones
just like man's inspirations that rush him
to various spheres of unpredictability
yet sometimes ego and pride glides down
into a ravine creating a gash so deep
that it leaves a scar
so difficult to hide or lighten;
just like the Coronavirus did
that it marred man's future
but won it's goal to fluster man
and shatter man's every dream and ego.

Is the virus a weapon of the Gods
to flatten the greed and the
uncontrollable sins man beholds?
Or, what could have made God so angry
that here comes a virus so vehement to correct
the extravagance of man's mind
that even though discoveries
had paved ways to control various diseases,
there had never been a forethought
or an imagination on that list of awareness
that an unknown virus called Corona
would one day surface
and there would be
no drug, no vaccine
to eradicate its deadly power
that would devastate so many lives
making people across the world
to live in either fear and grief
or die with sheer breathlessness and exit.
