Carnival Fare Poem by Cyrena Labuda

Carnival Fare

Flooded streets with carnival fare,
Music swims throughout the aire.
Smells of sweet and salty wisp by,
Smiles and laughs drown my heart's cry.
Wandering souls dance like fools,
Rebels refusing to follow rules.
We sway through the night,
Looking for someone to make it alright.
A smoke-filled candy factory,
Filled with misplaced inventory.
I saw your eyes begin to discover,
My gaze...kept undercover.
A request to move to his beat,
My flesh encountered defeat.
A blushing atmosphere,
No one to hold me back here.
Conversation short and sweet,
I found my mispaced treat.
Lost in the humble abode of my heart,
I struggle against what I did start.
Walking through the lonely sidewalks,
Next to me he stares and talks.
To my car, I sneak a peek at those wide eyes,
He can't see how my heart dies.
Close the door, turn the key.
Don't look back...let it be.
Drive down the dark quiet way,
To the empty house where I stay.
People go home to lay asleep,
Music fades out to the songs I will keep.
Smells slowly disperse like vapors around The Square.
Smiles and laughs, where I left you there.

A night of fun and frolic and later returning to empty home and remembering the love. Nice poem. Keep inking.
