At The River Poem by Cowboy Ron Williams

At The River

Rating: 5.0

I took me a stroll to the river,
with bow and arrows in a quiver.
I went there to fish,
but fell in with a splish,
and now I do nothing but shiver.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by Kim Barney's poem 'My Last Known Address was the Highway'. Thanks, Kim! ... Yes, I know that 'splish' isn't a real word, but who cares? Or maybe IT IS NOW!

Thanks, Kim. Actually, I had heard the word before. Remember that old song 'Splish, Splash, I was taking a bath...'?

Kim, that wouldn't be a 'notch' in an arrow, would it?

Bri, no! Kim was talking about 'splish', not 'notch'. Arrows don't have notches. They have nocks.

Bobby Darin 1973 song: '[Verse 1] Splish splash, I was taking a bath Long about a Saturday night, yeah A rub dub, just relaxing in the tub Thinking everything was alright'

I must admit I prefer a fishing pole and lure from bank or boat but I enjoyed your limerick from my dry vantage! 5 stars a-laughing

fishing with a bow/ that's a hard row to hoe/ the fish appear so clear/ they even appear to leer/ as away they go

Try fishing with a hook and line instead of bow and arrow. It's hard to get those arrows back!
