Are You Woke Poem by Tyesha M Doy

Are You Woke

Rating: 5.0

Let me take a second out of my busy day to educate the uneducated
You know who you are
The ones who have been privileged enough to be ignorant to issues that do not involve them directly
So don't, won't and can't understand the difference between protesting and disrespecting
That flag you praise so dear is drenched with our bloods and tears
I said IS drenched with our blood and tears not was
For those who can't or won't keep up
Try to understand life ain't that much different now for us
Kill our young to try to strike fear. Discourage us and hate the fact we're here
Other than my roots, my skin and my heritage what is it to hate so much about me
Ignorant people hush! I changed my mind don't even speak.
Just listen!
The past is what molded us, the present helps to build us, and future is what drives us to be these
Educated black individuals you see and don't try to take anything away from me
I am proud to be American, but please understand my ancestors were forced to this land
Slavery is what they want us to forget open your eyes.
Naw, you aint woke yet
You see they hate to admit when their wrong, you know who they are,
they are the ignorant ones
I said they want us to forget, but that is our history
So yeah you will aways get attitude from me
We were, and are even now, being beat down ‘cas we got a nerve to be brown.
So what, we get no rights now?
No justice, no piece, only gunned down in these streets
Because they fear who we might be
You hear me young people
Both white and black they fear who we might be
Hate is taught not in our DNA and they want to HOLD US back
Come on Wake up today
How they fear the power would shift and they would be left behind
so they create scenarios to make us blind
My YOUNG ARE YOU WOKE YET! You hold the future you are the key
Don't be molded by ignorant people who can't or won't see the true greatness America can be
