Anxiety Poem by Michael Hales

Anxiety

A dark seed-that impregnates the deepest recesses of the mind,
Growing and entangling it's vines to suffocate over time.
A weed that spreads it's melancholy with no reason or rhyme,
Overpowering happiness, wellbeing and the ability to be fine.
The minds eye casts it's gaze over a Barren and desolate land,
Where a shadow that was once a strong, confident person stands.
A spectre that's shackled by weeds only she can see,
The wraith is lost and confused wondering how she came to be.
A heavy fog settles on this lonely place,
Leaving no escape for the apperation, she is lost in time and space.
This entrapment is reminiscent of a battle thought once before,
The scars a reminder she picked herself up off the floor.
But now she is tired and realises the battle is so much more.
A epic fight! an eternal war.
Out of the fog comes a familiar face,
A vision of beauty full of conviction and faith.
She wears her scars as armour and doesn't come by herself...
For in the shadows are loved ones who have been covered with stealth.
She pulls strength from the knowledge her story has been told,
Of the fight and the plight and the struggles of old.
The warriors stand by her side and share with the load,
They come armed with love and laughter and hearts of gold.
They fill the void with memories and story's so true.
Of happy times when the fog was sky's of blue
They talk of the future and make plans so grand,
That the isolated place becomes a fertile land.
The warrior tells the phantom they are each other,
The army she brings are their brother and mother.
A son and a husband offering their ears to lend.
A shoulder to cry on given by a friend.
Side by side They nurture the land that was bare.
They all understand the weed will always be there.
Under the surface it's roots are fixed so deep.
Waiting for a crack in which they can creep.
