Amazon Women

Rating: 5.0

A warring tribe of women strong,
according to the tales;
their right breasts they did all cut off,
yet they were strong as males.

Why did they do that painful deed?
So they could use the bow!
with greater ease they pulled it back
and let that arrow go.

I've often pondered about that;
If it indeed is fact,
‘t would be the first example known
Of trading tit for tact!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I just got back later than one o'clock this morning after spending 17 days in my beloved Brazil, including a day in the Amazon Jungle. I got to fish for a huge fish called the arapaima (the locals in Manaus call it piracuru) . One of our party (a lady) fell into the Rio Negro during her fishing attempt. She lost her sunglasses but was otherwise all right.The women in the picture are REAL Amazon women, not the ones of myth and legend. These people survive today in the Amazon jungle. There are many different tribes, each with its own language, living in the Amazon today. Some tribes have no contact at all with the outside world, and some have very little. Some of the people that I spoke to did not even speak Portuguese, just their native tongue.16 November 2019

1 - re Poet's Notes: so, how DID you speak to them? ? The language of Love? tact: " adroitness and sensitivity in dealing with others or with difficult issues" adroitness: " cleverness or skill." yes, ok, to MyPoemList. did the left 'go' if one was left handed? ? Ouchy! ! ! Kim’s for tact is compared to “ for tat is an English saying meaning " equivalent retaliation" Nice.

I spoke in Portuguese and they spoke in their native tongue and neither of us understood the other.

Wes, ol' buddy, I really miss you here on PH. I hope you are still doing well on AP. I will check on you one of these days.

Thanks for the comment, Wes. You're right. I find that hard to believe, too.
