Wishes. Poem by Dorcas Tayire

Wishes.

Rating: 5.0

If wishes were fairies,
I'll fly to the future and ensure
without work,
my wishes are met.

If wishes were spirit beings,
I'd disappear
and appear in the world of my past;
Wiping out my regrets,
And make my wrongs; right.

If wishes were magic,
I'll wish this, and wish that.
Whilst I savor in the present and enjoy life.

Sometimes I wish
my wishes could be real,
but my wishes are just mere wishes
That might happen
Or never happen.

So if I sit; wishing all day long
I'll not achieve the height
In which, I wish to belong.

If I sit; wishing my past could be rewritten.
I'll end up wishing again
in the future to rewrite this present
that might end up being
a painful past if I keep wishing
Whilst doing nothing.

If I keep wishing for this
And wishing for that,
Doing nothing to have
It comes to pass.
I'll never stand the chance
To become what I would have loved to be.

But if I wish less
And act more,
Then my future would be what I wish it be.
