Who Am I? Poem by Dr Pintu Mahakul

Who Am I?

Rating: 4.9

'Who am I? Why am I so shy?
Why do I want to know? why do I look upon sky?
From where have I come? Where have I to go?
Oh dear beloved travellers in temples why do you bow? '

Who are you all? Have you ever asked?
Within the body of soil why have you masked?
Why is your drama fixed on earth?
Why do we feel pain and why do we take birth?

Who can answer? Who am I and who are you all?
Why are some dwarf and why are some tall?
Why do we gather? why do we bother?
Why do we unite and who is a stranger?

Why do we dream? Why do we hold hopes and pleasure?
Why do we need rest and think of leisure?
Why are all running? where are they going?
O dear brothers, please answer me as snowing.

Why is one cruel? Why is one kind?
Why does air blow and refresh human mind?
Why have we come and what is our vision?
'Who am I, ' all should ask themselves and know the reason.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The story of this poem is based on human soul's birth on earth and forgetfulness a soul bears after coming in contact with material world. But still sometimes so many questions arise in mind of his and a soul does ask himself that actually who is he? Why are the variations among human races observed and what are the real purposes of human birth? A soul deeps himself inside bunch of questions and does not get the proper answers to these and desires to ask others that who is he actually? But others too do not know about their true identities and they start thinking on the same way. This poem is written in Brahmapur, Odisha, India and dedicated to the people of the world.

This poem is also about answers, since the right questions are asked. A man requires knowledge and wisdom in order to ask questions. A good poem, which I enjoyed reading.

8) so in 2011 it remained with poems and nothing else. In 2017 my " activation on PH" really started. You can see that I could respond to the comments. There was also a constant lacking of time. This was largely due to my work as a teacher. I really enjoyed your fascinating poem. Thanks for sharing. May God Bless You in Abundance. Your poet friend from PF time.

Why is one cruel? Why is one kind? Why does air blow and refresh human mind? Why have we come and what is our vision? It's indeed very difficult to answer these questions my friend. An insightful piece. Top score and to my favourites.

This poem captures the existential yearning in all sentient conscious life, who we are is the most fundamental questions we face and this poem addresses it directly with beauty. Fantasti

We are all throwing into this world not knowing who we are, and as we grow and change we follow roads that nobody else can venture to try and find answers that are ours alone. A Breathtaking work!

These are some innocent question we keep pondering on. They are very pertinent and profound, they make our life meaningful. Your smart questions on soul and life go hand in hand. Superb poem. Liked the philosophical undertone.10***

The answers lie within. It is our duty to search for them. Excellent philosophical poem, Pintu!
