What An Abyssinian Era Poem by Harun Shukri

What An Abyssinian Era

Rating: 5.0

We cheered as he was handed the seat.
His words so soothing and sweet
He swore Ethiopia will develop and grow.
War and famine, high and low
He pledged to heal the scars.
And lift the country to the stars.

But as time went by, our hopes fell short,
And all his promises were just a sport.
of a misleading and deceptive man
With an agenda and secret plan
his rhetoric speeches meant nothing at all,
As poverty and hunger continued to call.

Oh, the leader that we hoped for,
To lift us up and give us more.
We thought he was the light we needed,
But now we feel lost and unheeded.

He led us all adrift
In an endless sea of blood
Pushing millions to the grave.
The young, old and the brave

Where is the progress we were expecting,
The growth, the change, the lives affecting?
We were promised joy, but all we see is pain,
And we ask ourselves, will we see joy again?

In his tangle of lies,
He lost the trust of young and wise,
His love for power made him betray
All that he promised on his first day

People are weeping for their love misplaced,
wondering how their admiration was disgraced,
And won't forget that he led his people astray,
For it's a heavy price to pay.

But in the midst of despair, we still believe,
That hope still lives, and we will achieve,
For we are a people with strength and pride,
And we will rise, no matter how hard the tide.

What a Man- A revelation
A saint, a sinner-a definition
Of an angel with evil
Ways of a good devil
Treating his own people as retards
Shuffling them like a deck of cards
