We're Not Banning Guns Poem by Randy McClave

We're Not Banning Guns

For our children we are banning books
So, they don't read about bad words or crooks,
We're banning them so they're out of our children's reach
And about them in school teachers can't teach.
But, we're not banning guns

For our children we're banning the word gay
So, while in school that word no one will understand or say,
Soon in the child's mind they won't know that word exists
It will be on all ban lists.
But, we're not banning guns.

For our children we're banning all history that makes us look bad
Or which makes us feel uncomfortable or makes us mad,
We want our past to be heroic, and proud, and not eerie
So, we want to ban the critical race theory.
But, we're not banning guns.

For our children we are banning video games and tv shows
So, they won't know of transgenders and violence that all adults knows,
We're even going to ban Disneyland
Because of the belief and the platform on which a mouse does stand.
But, we're not banning guns.

For our children we are going to ban doors
They need only one to enter and the same to leave as they have done before
Too many doors tempts anyone and everyone to enter
I guess too many windows soon will also be seen as a tormentor.
But, we're not banning guns.

For our children we are soon going to ban everything
From what they see, from what they read, from what they hear or sing
We have already banned and warned them about cigarettes and alcohol
We are their parents and as adults for their safety we know all.
But, we're not banning guns.
