We Are Infinite Poem by Christian Thomas Scott

We Are Infinite

Rating: 4.5

Autumn fell upon us like a whispered summer breeze,
On the nights when we were chasing headlights,
Searching for the dawn.
And every fleeting sunset was a journey to the stars,
A gateway to those deepest realms,
Of darkness and unknown.
So when we lost ourselves in the early morning hours,
I would look upon the stillness of the gleaming of the moon,
For this same ice-fire flows within my veins,
As that cold light flutters down upon my skin.
Yet as I drove towards possibilities,
In the lonely, broken, coldness of the night
There came a time when all the stars were silent in their dancing,
And I could not breathe the air from which you took your breath as well.
And I knew that night, that even silence is as voiceless as the trees;
Yet I could feel its deafened sorrow in the wind.
So when at last you came near to me,
All I knew was impossible things.
I was, in short, afraid.
But you took my hand and made me believe again.
And we go chasing city streetlights, underneath the glowing sky,
Your eyes like fire to my soul, in the murmurs of a dream.
Yet I will never grasp the impossibility
Of how the whole world can fall asleep in my arms.
And I have never felt so overwhelmed
As when you looked at me with your wind-tossed hair.
Because in that moment, I knew
That there will never be anything as beautiful as your perfection.
So wherever the wind blows, and wherever it takes us…
We are infinite, forever.
Don't you let it go.
