Wanted Only For Their Bodies



Does he love
the birch
wishing only
bark for canoes?
Wanting the spine
for flutes
does he love
the bamboo?
Desiring
longbow
weapons
did he love
the yew?

Footnote:

Walter Scott, in an Ivanhoe footnote, writes that King Edward I ordained yew trees be planted in all English churchyards, as a source of wood for longbow weapons.
