Tranny Poem by M.J. Lemon

Tranny

Rating: 5.0

I met him
after years of not seeing
him
and almost immediately
we started in on the world

he said that afternoon
visiting
he said tranny
and was told it
was hate speech

he then just talked
about his car
now long gone
and said tranny
was about driving

You could drive a tranny
driving standard trannies
he said he didn't hate cars

confusion

So I thought
do things really change
or do they go from one thing
to another to hate

Nothing is obsolete
maybe there are
stages of speech
and the last is the first

and then it repeats

its all simple some people like a good stick shift, some people don't. A good transmission is the best transition. Its all about getting the car you want which may not be the one your born with. The sphere of what is acceptable speech has changed over the years, language is now a landmine where poor communication will inevitably blow up in your face. Some great observations M.J. the idea of stages of speech is interesting, we always live in interesting times.

Thank you so much, Kevin. You have me thinking that the landmine field is so dangerous- -we may have to give up on language. How would the devolution look? Thanks again.

3) M.J., your poetry always stimulates my mind. And reminds me of all the positive reasons for my having chosen social work as a profession. Amongst the obvious, also, to put the hate mongers in their place!

2) First time that I had come across the word 'tranny' referring to a person. It was said with such hatred that it made me shiver...especially since, it was being used by some of the employees. Go figure...social workers using hate speech!

Reflecting on an university student placement job: A client, full of emotional pain, waiting at the doors before the office opened. The other workers were disgusted with him/her. The client was trying to get money for a transgender operation.

I cannot glide over your poetry- no it requires intensity and not skating away but instead joining up and getting aboard and thinking and feeling and sensing.and often seeing things a different way which can be unsettling or even disturbing or at the same time fulfilling

Susan, thank you so much! Whenever anyone pauses, slows, contemplates while reading, I've really managed to accomplish something. Thank you again!
